Today, Porsche announced they have begun assembly of the all-new 2013 Boxster two-seater roadster at the Osnabruck plant, which actually belongs to Volkswagen.
The previous versions of the Boxster and Cayman were all made b Valmet in Finland, and the deal that was terminated in 2011 has left the popular sportscar without a home.
Porsche’s own factories are busy making SUVs and sedans, so the humble little Boxster has been pushed to Osnabruck, which also makes the new VW Golf Cabriolet.
Porsche’s boss Matthias Muller is confident the build quality will be up to the levels expected of a Porsche. "The key factor in this decision was the very good expertise of the workforce at Volkswagen Osnabrück. Our sports cars are in the best hands here. After all, we all have the same understanding of quality. Osnabrück will become part of our success story,” he said earlier today.
“The production of the Porsche Boxster in Osnabrück is a clear sign that Volkswagen and Porsche are growing together. It creates synergy effects that will benefit customers, employees and the plant,” stated Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the board for Volkswagen.
