Volkswagen Scirocco R to Arrive in Australia In 2012

It’s finally official that the Volkswagen Scirocco R will arrive on the Australian auto market in 2012.

The German carmaker confirmed for CarAdvice that the Scirocco R will soon be available in Australian dealerships. The car is going to show its face for the first time to the Aussies in July at the Australian International Motor Show.

Unfortunately, not all versions of the Scirocco will be available on the market, just the sport focused R version, which is set to replace the Golf R.

As compared to the three-door Golf R, Volkswagen Scirocco R features front-wheel drive and will be available with a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox. The model will be fitted with Golf GTI’s ‘XDS’ differential system in order to make the car nimble through corners.

Under the hood of the Scirocco R we can find a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which can develop 252 hp (188 kW) of power and 244 lb-ft (330 Nm) of torque.

The Scirocco R features gas discharge (Bi-Xenon) dipped and main beam headlights as well as Gloss black brake calipers. The LED daytime running lights are incorporated into the bumper. Inside the car we find a multifunction leather steering wheel.

The car offers a long list of options that includes cruise control, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth telephone preparation for HFP (Hands Free Profile) enabled telephones, DVD navigation and 6 CD autochanger, RNS 315 touch-screen navigation/radio system, DAB digital radio reception, multi-function colour display, etc..

Volkswagen hasn't mentioned the price for the car, but it is expected to be between the Golf GTI ($42,990 or EUR29, 370) and the manual five-door Volkswagen Golf R ($49,990 or EUR34 150).
