German automaker Volkswagen is looking to extend its next-generation Passat line-up to include a CC-styled Shooting Brake model.
According to Autocar, Volkswagen officials say that the new CC-based estate will join the successor of today’s four-door saloon in the second-generation MQB platform line-up scheduled for 2015.
“The market for estates continues to grow and we want to expand our sales potential. We see a definite trend towards the so-called Shooting Brake. Whether we decide to adopt that name remains undecided”, and insider told the afore-mentioned source.
There’s no official word from Volkswagen yet and very little information, but it seems like the new car will grow in size compared to the current generation model, with the Wolfsburg-based automaker obviously aiming at Mercedes’ CLS Shooting Brake.
To be honest, we wouldn’t be surprised if this rumor gets official confirmation and we think a CC Shooting Brake could be a replacement for the US retired Passat wagon. But we’d also expect from Volkswagen to tackle BMW’s Gran Turismo line-up.
