Volkswagen Golf 77TSI Launched in Australia

Volkswagen’s Australian arm is introducing a new entry-level model for the Golf range. The new version of the popular hatchback is focused on offering affordability and efficiency.

Dubbed 77TSI, the model is powered by a 1.2 liter TSI engine delivering 77 kW (105hp) and a maximum torque of 175 Nm between 1,550 rpm and 4,100 rpm. The turbocharged four cylinder unit is a follower of the downsizing trend. The powerplant is mated to six-speed manual transmission and can also be fitted with the optional seven-speed DSG gearbox. It returns a fuel consumption of  38.6 mpg (6.1 liters per 100 km) and emits 144 grams of CO2 per km.

The model will come with the same features as the previous entry-level model, the Golf 90TSI Trendline. The list includes a Multi Functional Display (MFD trip computer), “Titanium” decor inserts and semi-automatic air conditioning. In addition, the model comes with aesthetic features such as the leather finish for gearshift knob and handbrake lever and with 15 inch Wellington alloy wheels (16 inch Sedona alloy wheels for Golf Wagon).

Alongside the introduction of the new model, the entire Golf Trendline range receives an equipment upgrade at no extra cost. The range gets standard features such as cruise control and a multi-function leather steering wheel.

The new Golf77TSI can be yours starting from AU$21,990, for the six-speed manual, while the 7-speed DSG version starts at AU$24,490.

The new entry Golf 77TSI, together with the new generous equipment upgrade for the Trendline range, once and for all ensure that the Golf remains the perfect choice for those consumers who demand a compact car that is not only functional, but also looks and feels fun to drive,” stated the press release.
