Back in 2019, the eighth generation of the eternal 'America's sports car' Chevrolet Corvette turned expectations upside down with the arrival of the model in a mid-engine RWD format instead of the traditional front V8 rear-wheel drive setup. And, of course, the rest of the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray saga is history.
The switch to a European-style rear-mid-engine RWD format has led to countless ideas – the OEM ones in the making also include the rumored 850-hp C8 ZR1 supercar plus a potentially electrified 1,000+ hp Zora hypercar, among others (like a sedan and even a crossover SUV). But, of course, the aftermarket world is a tad more bonkers when it also gets help from the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. And, sometimes, you don't even need the backing of major brands – a DIY project might still be enough for a potential entry into the Guinness World Records book!
Wait, there is no need to take our word for granted. Instead, let us check out together the latest digital deed of Oscar Vargas, the virtual artist better known as wb.artist20 on social media, who now has another crazy 'rendering-to-reality' project underway. Together with Luc's (fajita hut), an enterprise that combines food with trucks, auto or motorcycle events, and general good times, Vargas has set on a journey of discovery that's a bit crazier than the norm – to say the least.
So, as far as we can tell, the brief handed to the artist was 'simple:' create a vintage-looking food truck! Alas, that's not going to be just any other run-of-the-mill food truck but rather an instantly-recognizable International Metro van that will also pay tribute to Ken Block, his Hoonigan ethos, and his lucky number '43.' And how will they achieve that in a van riddled with patina and sporting the kitchen on one side and the bar on the other? Well, they are just going to stuff a C8 Chevy Corvette V8 engine in the middle of the darn thing!
Yep, you heard us correctly: this thoroughly slammed and funnily widebody International Metro van is going to be called 'Vettro' because the DIY-style builders will steal the 6.2-liter LT2 cross-plane OHV V8 engine of a white, salvaged C8 Chevy Corvette Stingray and give it a new lease of life inside "the fastest and most insanely cool Food Truck you'll ever see!" By the way, this is not a ruse. As you can easily see in the gallery above, the food truck setting may be virtual, but the gutted International Metro van is as real as you and me – and so is the ongoing build progress. Now, all we have to do is wait and see if they nail that Guinness record – hopefully with some videos of quarter-mile dragstrip or top-speed shenanigans!
