The fact that customized license plates are extremely expensive these days in the UK is no longer news. As a matter of fact, figures reaching 7 digits have been around for quite some time now, but that definitely doesn’t mean that interest in the whole thing is going down.
Actually, it has grown to such extent that manufacturers got involved, and Ferrari is the latest to throw its name in the hat. Ferrari North Europe is actually auctioning off the V12 LAF number which, as you probably guessed, will fit perfectly on a Ferrari LaFerrari. Why? Because it uses a V12, of course.

The auction is set to choose a winner at the end of November, so you might want to hold off for a week or two before making a bid, just to see how high the number will reach. Considering that a Ferrari LaFerrari can cost up to $2 million these days, it would be madness to spend half that much on a license plate, right?

Well, the F1 license plate number is rumored to be up for sale if anyone is willing to pay £10 million ($15.3 million or €14 million at today’s exchange rates) and that’s just stunning. The owner, Mr. Afzal Kahn of Kahn Design, has already been offered £6 million for it and he turned it down. That means the V12 LAF plates could go for millions of pounds. And that would be good news for a change. Why?

Because Ferrari has announced that the proceeds will go to the Henry Surtees Foundation that assists people with brain or physical injuries caused by car accidents, and helps them return to community living.

“We are truly honoured that Ferrari has chosen to donate the proceeds of this auction to the Henry Surtees Foundation. The work we are doing is absolutely critical to help save the lives and provide emergency support for those who sustain serious head injuries and I know that Henry would have been very proud to hear of Ferrari’s continued association with the Surtees family name, more than 50 years after I drove for Il Commendatore,” commented John Surtees OBE.

Since it’s all for a noble cause, I think owners of the LaFerrari should definitely measure their egos in as many zeroes as possible for once!
