US DOE Confirms Lamborghini Aventador Roadster for 2012

Rumors of a topless version of the newly released Raging Bull have started ever since early May, pumping adrenaline in the hearts of Lamborghini fans. However, many remained skeptical at seeing a roadster variant of the Aventador on the streets very soon.

The exact same people are now to be wowed and confused at the same time, as everything they thought they knew is about to change, and this is thanks to the U.S. Department of Energy fuel economy dedicated website.

According to the recently updated database, which now comprises various 2012 model year vehicles, Lamborghini is listed with two Aventador versions. Yes, you’ve guessed it: we are talking here about both the coupe and the roadster version.

The Aventador Roadster would pretty much translate into 690 horsepower and at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 509 lb-ft (690 Nm) at 5,500 rpm... plus the wind in your hair... that, of course, if you have any left after the first 2.9 seconds. This is pretty much the exact same time the Coupe version needs to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h).

This is because it looks like the Roadster will have the same 6.5-liter V12 engine fitted as its coupe sibling. And the similarities don’t stop here: the new roadster will also have the same fuel economy rating - that of 11/17 mpg (city/highway) or 13 mpg combined.

Prices for the Coupe start at EUR255,000 (this does not include taxes) or $379,700 for the US market. This means that we should expect the Roadster to be priced likewise.
