Few car manufacturers have the prestige and pedigree of TVR. The British marque had a lot of ups and downs since it was founded in 1947, but all is not lost.
A recent Autocar report suggests the Blackpool-based company will be back in business with an all-new model by 2017. The much-anticipated rebirth of the TVR sports car brand will start with the opening of a research and development facility in the south of England sometime in the near future.
Computer game millionaire Les Edgar and his consortium of British car loving business partners bought all of the company's rights and assets from Nikolai Smolenski in June 2013. Since then, the TVR website has been updated with the brand's original logo and various phrases hinting that TVR may soon return to return to being a car manufacturer.
Les Edgar declared for the aforementioned publication that the main task at this moment is to line up a capable team of engineers, designers and suppliers needed to build "modest quantities" of vehicles. Not much is known about what the future model will be offering, but we bet it will follow the classic British sports car recipe: six or eight-cylinder engine at the front with drive at the back, all wrapped up in a beautiful GT body.
Edgar also mentioned: "We will soon be ready to commission a static prototype. We’re not yet ready to say what kind of chassis the car will have, although having investigated every likely form, from the tubular backbone chassis to a full carbonfibre tub, we’re close to making a decision."
As to what the future will be like, nobody knows for certain, but TVR is likely to play the long game. Let's keep our fingers crossed and wish the iconic British manufacturer a speedy comeback.
