Modern-day muscle cars are even fiercer than the monsters that kickstarted the genre back in the late 60s. And there's a clear hierarchy when it comes to quarter-mile times - for instance, a Dodge Challenger Hellcat is certainly quicker than a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
So when the driver of a tuned Hellcat and the wielder of a ZL1 recently got together for a 1,320 feet brawl, nobody wanted to bet on the Chevy.

Fortunately, the hooners decided to battle it out at the drag strip, thus keeping things on the safe side and enjoying the prepped surface of the track. Speaking of which, the prep work was brilliant, with the beasts fighting at the Palm Beach International Raceway.

As far as we can tell, the ZL1 comes in factory form, which means its blown 6.2-liter V8 delivers 650 ponies.

We can't say the same thing about the Mopar machine we have here. For one thing, the aficionado who caught the drag race on camera claims the Hellcat runs an E85 setup. And, if we look at the muscle monster, we notice at beadlock setup for the rear axle.

This is extremely important, as the Hellcat already has trouble getting off the line in 707-pony form, so adding muscle means such a feature was a must. Nevertheless, we're not aware of the Challenger's exact output.

The two machines engaged in a standard quarter-mile brawl. Fortunately, the piece of footage documenting the run also involves the 1/4-mile numbers displayed at the end of the fight, so you'll be able to get a clear view of the matter.

Returning to the point we made in intro, the podium might just be shuffled soon, as Ford is set to introduce the S550 incarnation of the Mustang Shelby GT500 - here's some spy material on this Blue Oval matter.
