Pairing the fastback body of an early Mustang with a Coyote crate engine is always an excellent way to steal the show, be it on the road or on the track. And the 1969 ‘Stang we have in the gallery below is the perfect example of that.
Having started life as any other Mustang of its generation, this one here got a serious, three-year makeover that ended in 2014. The goal of the project, ran by a garage from Kentucky called Allison’s Rod & Custom, was to give SCCA club racer Phil Heacock a machine worthy of use for track exploits.
To do that, the garage replaced the stock engine of the car with a crate 5.0-liter Coyote V8, linked it to a Whipple supercharger and a six-speed manual transmission, and thus achieved a horsepower rating at the rear wheels of 530 hp.
Because it was supposed to be used hard, other modifications had to be made as well. They included upgraded suspension, brakes, and the addition of rack-and-pinion steering.
The changes on the inside are mirrored on the outside by an extensive overhaul that translated into the addition of a fiberglass hood with functional scoops, and the replacing of a great deal of parts, from windows to gas cap, with new ones. To make sure the message of what’s under the hood gets through, a “Powered by a Supercharged Coyote” badge has been slapped on the front grille.
The interior changes include the fitting of Sparco sport seats with the accompanying harnesses, power windows, air conditioning, and a center console that features even cup holders.
This Coyote-powered 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback can be had as part of an online auction on Bring a Trailer. At the time of this writing, there are six days left in the auction, and the price offered for it has already reached $40,000.
