The difference in energy consumption between and EV and a gasoline car is that the electric one can actually regain some of the energy it uses back from the environment, whereas the gasoline one starts with a limited amount of energy stored in its gas tank.
The following video shows how engineers made the new Toyota RAV4 EV more energy efficient to limit the range anxiety that some customers might feel when driving an EV.

First of all, the RAV4 EV couldn’t be what it is without regenerative braking, which recharges the battery pack when slowing down the car or driving down a slope, which doesn’t require any power from the motor.

Other than that, the vehicle uses LED lights all over the place to keep energy draining at a low level. See more in the video bellow.
