Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), the company’s racing arm, which formerly handled F1 operations, has just introduced a racing version of the Toyota GT 86 sports car.
Using the TMG GT86 CS-V3 designation, the vehicle is eligible for the V3 class of the Nurburgring VLN racing series, which includes the Nurburgring 24 Hours race. For now, the vehicle has been homologated by the Deutsche Motor Sport Bund in Germany, but it is expected to be able to enter a much wider range of competitions in the future.
The TMG GT86 CS-V3 is aimed for private racers and has been built with a low budget in mind, with the vehicle costing EUR38,500 ($47,760 at the current exchange rate), plus taxes. The most important changes includes a racing exhaust system (the 2.0-liter Boxer engine has been left untouched apart from this), motorsport suspension, a stiffer chassis, a stripped-out cabin and a roll-cage.
TMG president Yoshiaki Kinoshita explained that the vehicle has already proven what it can do, since its pre-production version took the win in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race earlier in the year.
