It’s not a surprise that the Toyota Matrix could be discontinued, as the sales figures for the model have been dropping constantly over the last few years and now Toyota is making the future of the model look even darker, as the company has denied the possibility of bringing the Auris to the US as a replacement.
The Matrix came to live via a JV with General Motors, which saw the latter build the Pontiac Vibe, a car that no longer exists, since GM killed the brand it belongs to.
As for the Auris, the car’s chief engineer, Hiroya Fujita, who also handles the JDM-spec Corolla, explained that the company doesn’t want to bring this to the US due to the fact that the hatchback segment it fights in isn’t very popular among American buyers. However, the engineer didn’t want to offer any answer when asked about the fate of the Matrix.
