Porsche is the maker of some really fine cars, and no argument is needed to prove that statement. Just like no argument is needed to justify the high prices the German carmaker is asking for its fine products, because its cars are by no means expensive if you consider what they have to offer. But does the Porsche magic extend to other, non-automotive products as well?
Believe it or not, the carmaker has been selling a lot more than just cars for years now. Its online shop includes anything and everything from clothing to home and lifestyle items. And the list just got bigger this week with the introduction of no less than three designer chairs not meant for use in cars.

I'm not sure how many of you know this, but over in Switzerland there is a designer furniture maker called Vitra that caters to the needs of those rich enough not to bother about spending fortunes on, well, furniture.

At it since 1950, the furniture maker just got in bed with Porsche to release the three chairs just in time for the specialized The Art of Dreams event taking place in Milan, Italy, this week.

What the Porsche collab means is that one of the carmaker's most iconic fabrics was incorporated into the design of the chairs, making them even more special. And the fabric's name is Pepita.

That would be material in a houndstooth pattern with small squares connected by diagonal stripes that was first offered as an option on the Porsche 356 and later on the 911. It's not a very common material used in Porsche vehicles, having most recently been deployed on the collector's 911 Sport Classic launched in 2022.

The first Vitra chair for Porsche is called Eames Plastic Side Chair Pepita Edition, and it's basically a white contoured shell over a black maple base, with Pepita on the seat and backrest. It's a limited edition item, with just 1,963 units to be made, each priced at 911 euros. This chair is not available on the U.S. market at the time of writing, but the next two are, and their prices are heart-stopping to say the least.

Something called ID Trim L Pepita Edition, for instance, is going for $2,530. It's an office chair wearing the Pepita fabric pretty much everywhere, with a leather headrest that features the Porsche crest. Just 911 units of these things will ever be made.

The champion in expensiveness is something called Petit Repos Pepita Edition, one of those armchairs styled in a way I've always considered to be darn ugly. So ugly, in fact, that there's not much to say about it other than it's a combination of leather and Pepita fabric.

The Repos is the most exclusive chair in the collection, as Porsche will be selling it on its online shop (sales start for all three items on April 22) for no less than $5,179 (taxes not included) to just 99 of our fellow Earthlings.
