While a fully original and unmolested first-generation Ford Mustang is a true gem, restomods too are worth our love, especially when the quality of the build is absolutely top-notch. And given it’s Ford Month here at autoevolution, we can’t help but highlight some of the best examples you can find these days.
The 1968 Mustang you see here is a restomod that excels in almost every single regard, and it all starts with the engine that puts the wheels in motion.
Power now comes from a Ford 428-ci (7.0-liter) FE V8 featuring Edelbrock Performer RPM Aluminum heads and the original style Ford intake manifold, as the folks over at Vanguard Motor Sales, the garage in charge of selling the car, explain in a detailed look at the car.
The engine is paired with a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission and comes alongside other notable mechanical upgrades, including new power brakes, fuel lines, an aftermarket aluminum radiator, and a front independent suspension system. A dual exhaust upgrade with Flowmaster mufflers makes sure the V8 power is obvious for everyone.
The magic continues inside where the Mustang now boasts leather bucket front seats, black upholstery and carpeting, and a factory roll bar, as well as AutoMeter gauges and a custom floor shifter.
The car has just 231 miles (371 km) on the clock since the restomod project was completed, so all in all, it should look, work, and feel like a brand-new Mustang with upgraded capabilities.
The body is obviously in tip-top shape, and it comes finished in a pepper gray paint with black stripes, chrome bumpers, a grille in excellent conditions, and bumpers that don’t show a single scratch. The car now rides on 17-inch wheels on the front and 18-inch wheels on the rear, both using an Aluminum GT40 style to match the Mustang look.
Needless to say, a car in this condition and with so many upgrades can’t come cheap, and this Mustang obviously doesn’t make any exception. The garage has listed it at $174,900, but some financing options are also available if you really want to buy it.
