We have known for quite some time that the era of the V12 is coming to an end. And Lamborghini was not going to be able to ignore the trend. That is why its second super sports car in the High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) lineup will be powered by a V8.
Lamborghini will come up with a new engine that will be able to hit 10,000 rpm and will make room into the car codenamed 634. That is the code that Lamborghini uses to define the successor to the Huracan, which has not yet received an actual name.

The model will be set in motion by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that will be integrated into a hybrid system. It will work alongside three electric motors and will be mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch auto box, which has already made its debut on the Revuelto. The transmission has to manage 1,001 horsepower (1,015 metric horsepower) in the Revuelto, but the new Lambo sports car might stop at less than that.

Lamborghini is designing the new engine from scratch in Sant'Agata Bolognese. They target to offer both performance and driving emotion that go beyond what the Huracan was capable of providing.

It will come with a displacement of 4.0 liters, which translates to a formidable 200 metric horsepower (197 horsepower) per liter. The V8 will pump out 800 metric horsepower (789 horsepower) between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm going as far as 10,000 rpm. Those are numbers that usually race car engines are able to brag about.

The engine will deliver as much as 538 pound-feet (730 Newton meters) of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm offering the progression of a racing engine, all thanks to the seamless integration of the electric unit with the combustion engine, the Italian house claims.

Lamborghini has also designed and developed a rear electric system for the new V8. It will sit between the combustion engine and the dual-clutch gearbox and will integrate the inverter and the axial electric unit, which adds a maximum torque of 221 pound-feet (300 Newton meters) and 146 horsepower (150 metric horsepower).

The Lambo experts went out of their way to come up with a soundtrack that would be appropriate for the newly developed V8. The car will offer the ultimate sound experience as the V8 will act and sound more brutal the higher it is revved, hitting its peak in terms of volume while transmitting vibrations to the chassis by the flat-plane crankshaft for a sensory experience.

It won't be long before we get to see the Lamborghini 634 or whatever its name it will be. We are counting, though, on a more exotic name, which will reportedly be Temerario. The model is scheduled to make its public debut later this year.
