Not everyone is out to break records just for the sake of being included in the Guinness Book of World Records. But a record does help with sales, and that's nothing to scoff at.
If you're wondering how the future might look like in terms of mobility, the answer depends entirely on who you're asking. If you ask Smartech and its most recent acquisition, Felo, the answer looks a lot like the TOOZ, soon-to-be the world's largest electric motorcycle capable of delivering an equally impressive range. A record-breaker is what TOOZ is – or can become, provided it lives up to the hype.

You've heard this time and time again: the future of mobility is electric. As of right now, though, electric options are limited on considerations of range, charging network, and pricing. The industry is moving in the direction of all-electric vehicles, but the pace – and implicitly, the rate of adoption – isn't what was initially anticipated or promised.

But every single achievement in the direction of more sustainable transport, regardless of the number of wheels involved, is worthy of celebration. With that in mind, Thailand is getting ready to be making leaps instead of small hops towards better, more viable electric motorcycles.

Local bike company Felo and its parent Smartech, a leading maker of electric vehicles in the country, believe the future will look like the TOOZ, a motorcycle they previewed with much fanfare at the 45th edition of the Bangkok International Motor Show.

It's a touring-style bike most likely poised to set a new world record in terms of size – but only because it also seems determined to go for the title of the world's longest range.

Neither future records were mentioned in the official presentation of the bike, according to one media outlet that had representatives on site and saw it in the flesh metal. But they would become a reality if the promised spec list makes it to the production model, including a per-charge range of 450 miles (720 km) via a 35kwh 700V 50 Ah battery.

The moment when the Felo TOOZ was unveiled is included in the video below, time-stamped to that exact segment of the entire presentation. The TOOZ is massive but it's also comfortable and tech-packed and, according to Smartech, focused on rider safety like no other product of the kind before.

Among the promised features, there's a maximum speed of 125 mph (202 kph) courtesy of an electric motor of unspecified make, and safety features including a 360-degree camera system, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ABS, and traction control.

A massive 12" TFT display would serve as dashboard and entertainment center, linked to a 6-channel surround sound system. Neither the display nor the camera system was shown in operation during the presentation, as the video below shows, which leaves room for interpretation as regards the exact stage of development of the bike.

The Felo TOOZ would get fast charging, so you'd be ready to go in 20 minutes with 80% of the battery charged. V2L tech would allow you to use the battery to power up other devices or even your home, while an 8-liter (0.3 cu-ft) cooling box would add a bit more convenience and extra comfort to extended trips.

The presentation was more like a teaser, with a unit of the e-bike on display and only as little information as necessary to get people's attention. The detail about the range and the visualization of the bike's dimensions did just that, but there's one more thing that might have slipped through the cracks. That would be an estimated timeline or what looks very much like one. Assuming Google Translate is off only by a small margin and not a whole lot.

There's a mention on the Smartech website about how this high-performance e-bike and another one that was on the adjacent stand are "ready to serve and will begin expanding throughout the country by the end of 2024."

That would mean the TOOZ is already near the production-ready phase and will be going out to dealers in Thailand by the end of the year. If all promised specs make it to the production version, it wouldn't be that far-fetched to assume international deliveries might happen, too, at some point. The same official presentation promises even more advanced tech features on the bike and that "the design in every dimension is perfect."

Perfection, much like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, but who are we to argue with Smartech. The most important aspect is that an electric motorcycle with this kind of range would set an incredible precedent for the industry as a whole, regardless of whether the Felo TOOZ makes it across Thailand's borders or not.

So this is one e-bike concept (prototype?) we should all be keeping an eye out for.
