Named Silverado Special Operations, the concept truck has been presented at SEMA, and according to GM, it will go on sale as a limited edition model as early as next spring.
The Special Ops is based on a 2016 Silverado 1500 Z71 but with some special features, such as a naval-inspired camouflage, a more aggressive front end, flared wheel arches, and a strip of six-inch LED lights inside the radiator grille.
Above the cabin, the truck has an additional three LED lights while the bed has the GearOn utility rack mounted on. Off-road tires and matte black wheels complete the exterior.
Inside, the military theme continues with the seats and the flooring, which are made of waterproof material, as well as with the naval camouflage that was carried over from the exterior.
When the Silverado Special Ops was launched at the SEMA, Jim Campbell, U.S Vice-President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsport, said that it was a “multipurpose truck that reflects the go-anywhere, do-anything commitment of special-forces teams.”
GM didn’t have any further details to give about the production model, but it stated that Chevrolet would donate a portion of the proceeds from each Special Ops Silverado to the Navy SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, according to Automotive News.
The US carmaker also wants to help the families of fallen, injured or active duty Navy SEALs. Chevrolet also plans to expand its military discount program through January 4, 2016. Thanks to this project, approximately 23 million veterans, reservists, retirees and also active duty members of the U.S Air Force, Coast Guard, Army, Marines, Navy, National Guard, and their wives, will benefit from substantial discounts when buying a new Chevrolet.
During the previous football game between Army and Navy, the concept truck was presented on-field, and the crowd reacted well when seeing the Silverado Special Ops live, so putting it into production is not a bad idea after all.
