Chevrolet continued its concept trucks unveiling at SEMA with this military-themed Silverado they very aptly named “Special Ops.”
While it would never actually pass as a military vehicle, the truck does have a bellicose air to it, with that vertical front end and mean-looking face. Chevrolet, however, thought about a rescue vehicle for the special forces while coming up with the truck’s design.

The concept is based on a 2016 Silverado 1500 Z71 pickup, which is pretty obvious in spite of the Navy-inspired Razzle Dazzle camouflage covering the car’s exterior. The aggressive front end is further enhanced with help from the flared wheel arches and a strip of six-inch LED lights slotted inside the radiator grille, just below the long hood.

Three additional LED lights are mounted above the cabin while the bed has the versatile GearOn utility rack mounted on. The rugged exterior is finished off with off-road tires and matte black wheels.

Inside, there are color accents in Ejector Orange on the door handles and glove box. Since it’s a Navy vehicle, the seats and flooring have been trimmed with waterproof fabric, and with the risk of dazzling the driver, the Razzle Dazzle theme was carried over to the interior as well.

This Silverado concept is a multipurpose truck that reflects the go-anywhere, do-anything commitment of special-forces teams,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.

It’s well known that most of the pickup customers are also patriotic, so linking this concept model with the US Navy is an easy but also probably quite effective trick. Because, let’s face it, special ops are the guys that get the hardest missions and so they need the hardest vehicles. With all due respect to the Silverado, they either need something a lot tougher or something much more inconspicuous.

The Chevrolet Silverado Special Ops concept is the second one to receive special attention after the Colorado Z71 Trail Boss 3.0 we’ve covered earlier. However, the GM SEMA Show stand has other stuff than just pickups on display, and they’re all worth checking out.
