In case you haven’t started your own countdown already, we’re only one week away from Christmas, so naturally, every car maker has started to adapt its advertising to the occasion.
Commercially speaking, this is the best time of the year, so no company can afford to let it slip unnoticed, even though the car industry isn’t as reliant on Christmas as others. However, you wouldn’t want your competitor to wish a potential client “Merry Christmas” while you don’t, right?

At the same time, you don’t want their clip to be better than yours either, so consider the race for the most memorable Christmas special commercial video open. Here we have one of Mercedes-Benz’s entries (we’re sure there will be more) showcasing the new Mercedes-Benz 350 e PLUG-IN HYBRID.

You don’t know what to expect from these clips. On the one hand, they have to be memorable, so it’s a case of “everything goes,” but on the other hand, they also have to remain quite traditional, so there’s a very fine balance that has to be stricken.

Well, in the case of this C350 e clip, you can only speak of some kind of balance if you were to make an average out of the film’s three moments. Otherwise, they’re as different as they get.

Meant to show us the two faces of the powerful plug-in hybrid, the commercial uses a contrasting soundtrack and a fictive town called Elektra (where, apparently, everybody sleeps with their lights on) to mark the difference between running in EV mode and in normal mode.

The Mercedes-Benz C350 e PLUG-IN HYBRID uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine for an output of 211 hp and 350 Nm, coupled with a 60 kW and 340 Nm electric moment for a total of 279 hp and 600 Nm. That’s enough for a 5.9-second 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint and the proverbial 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed. At the same time, the C350 e has a maximum electric range of 31 km (19 miles) - very useful when going through Elektra - and a top speed in EV mode of 130 km/h (80 mph).

If you were ever curious to hear the rock version of the famous Silent Night Christmas carol, you’re just one click away.
