From the very first moment it was unveiled, the BMW XM has become a muse for tuning houses. Body kit after body kit has been fitted to this drama queen tagged as the most powerful M car ever. Now, the time has come for Renegade Design to detail its version of the XM.
You can call the stock XM anything but tamed. That is probably why it turned out so controversial, with haters going as far as saying that rolling out the first car entirely developed by the M division after the iconic M1 from 1978 is an offense.

Offensive or not, one thing is for sure. The XM has been getting its never-ending minutes of fame, and it just would not step off the stage. Tuning houses won't let it. Mansory, Larte Design, and Venuum have all been coming up with their take on the model.

Now, Renegade Design is detailing a body kit for the super BMW. They first showed it last year, in August, and now, it turns out they've got more to show.

Renegade Design has come up with carbon fiber covering everything that is coverable. Starting from the top, there is a carbon fiber front splitter below the hexagonal radiator grille, which is also in carbon fiber and sports a contrasting gold surround. A carbon fiber cover showed up on the hood.

Fender flares in carbon fiber make it wider than the stock car, making room for the multi-spoke HRE wheels.

The same material dresses the mirror caps, side skirts, and door sills, and the rear end of the car tells the exact same story: the rear bumper air diffuser, the exhaust trims, and the look-at-me roof spoiler are made of… what else but carbon fiber?

Renegade Design does not disclose any suspension modification. But just like last summer, the BMW XM still sits lower than it did when it rolled off the production line.

The XM is also the first electrified M car, so it ticks quite a lot of firsts. Renegade Design had nothing against it, so the team stayed out of the engine bay. This means that the plug-in hybrid XM is still powered by its stock 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which pumps out 483 horsepower (489 metric horsepower) and 480 pound-feet of torque.

The V8 gets the assistance of an electric motor, which is integrated into the high-speed ZF automatic transmission. The e-motor brings 194 horsepower (197 metric horsepower) and 207 pound-feet (281 Newton meters) into the equation for a total of 644 horsepower (653 metric horsepower) and 590 pound-feet (800 Newton meters). If it is the Label version we're dealing with, then we've got 738 horsepower (748 metric horsepower) on tap.

Those are enough for a run from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4.1 seconds. The Label version only takes 3.8 seconds for the run.

The car is ever more interesting as it comes with a cabin in Sakhir orange, contrasting with the white body and the carbon fiber.

At first, Renegade Design will only produce ten such body kits, with more to come depending on demand. The tuning house does not mention any price for the body kit, but whatever it will be, it will be on top of the $159,000 MSRP of the BMW XM. Those who go for the range-topping Label variant will pay $185,000 for the vehicle alone.
