Kia UK introduces the limited-run Sorento 'Vision' model into the lineup. It sits below last year's 'Edition' version, and the company says it's more affordable. But they're missing the point – nothing is cheap anymore, and certainly not cars sold in the United Kingdom.
The South Korean automaker recently unveiled the updated 2024 Kia Sorento to try and keep up with the seven-seat mid-size crossover SUV competitors. It also probably felt a bit left out of the party because everyone was mesmerized by the MX5 fifth-generation 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe, which just switched its design ethos to a boxy, rugged lifestyle. However, the facelifted 2024 Kia Sorento is not available across all markets – more precisely, the United Kingdom still has the initial MQ4 iteration on sale rather than the updated one.
And, in a bid to lift the appeal of the family-oriented seven-seat CUV, Kia UK just introduced a new special series for the Sorento dubbed 'Vision.' It will be offered alongside the existing 'Edition' trim with orders already open and first customer deliveries before the end of the month. This limited edition model was devised to "create a more affordable entry point into the Sorento lineup." Still, its price reflects why it sits just below the flagship 'Edition' trim level introduced last year.
Standard specification perks include stuff like a panoramic electric sunroof, LED headlights, black leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, heated second-row seats, a smart powered tailgate, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus complementary seven-year Kia Connect services, among others. There are also numerous safety systems – all taken from the 'Edition' model, save for the Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA) and Remote Smart Park Assist (RSPA).
As always, Kia offers a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty as standard, and the 'Vision' models also introduce various chrome and silver exterior details along with two new exterior shades - Gravity Blue and Steel Grey, which are exclusive to this limited edition trim level. Just like the flagship 'Edition,' the Kia Sorento 'Vision' can be ordered with diesel, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid powertrains for additional versatility. However, as always across the UK market, more recently, the prices are quite prohibitive.
So, the Kia Sorento Vision with the 2.2-liter CRDi and DCT dual-clutch transmission (191 hp, 9.2 seconds to 60 mph) goes for £44,995 (on-the-road, which translates to almost $55k). Secondly, the 1.6-liter turbo hybrid variant with 226 hp and 9 seconds to 60 mph costs from £46,495, which is well over $56k at the current exchange rate. Last but not least, there's also the plug-in hybrid option from £51,495 ($62,512) with 261 hp and 8.7s to 60 mph.
As a quick comparison, over across the big pond – aka the Atlantic Ocean – the regular Sorento with the entry-level gasoline mill costs at least $30,090, whereas the Sorento Hybrid can be had from $36,690 and the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is the most expensive but still under $50k.
