Flint, the town in Michigan that has its water network left unusable because of lead, consumes a massive amount of pre-packaged water bottles.
All of those water bottles are made from plastic, and the material is known for not being friendly to the environment. Unfortunately for the planet, humans are not that careful with plastic, and most of it does not get recycled, and ends up in oceans or polluting some other part of the globe.
Fortunately, not all businesses feel that they cannot change anything, and C3 Ventures is one of them. While you may not have heard of them, C3 Ventures is a supplier for Tesla Motors. They have announced an investment in Flint, Michigan, which will create nearly 380 jobs.
This investment is not just a factory, as it will recycle plastic bottles collected from the city. While most urban settlements would require similar facilities, Flint was the perfect choice for C3 Ventures, as the town sufferes from a sustained consumption of plastic bottles that would have otherwise not been recycled.
Work at the site will begin this fall, so it will take some time until the collected bottles are being turned into automotive components. The first parts will be ready by October, and some of them will be used in the Tesla Model 3, while others will go to the rest of the Tesla Motors range.
The new parts will be made through the process of injection molding, and all of the required tools for production will be located in Flint. The company has received a $5.7 million loan with the aid of the Michigan Business Development Program, to assist with the relocation of their tooling and with the recruitment process. At first, the facility will only have 50 employees, but it plans to have 380 once it reaches maximum output.
The move made by C3 shifted production from China to the USA, something that one rarely sees these days. Local authorities hope that other companies will be inspired by the investment and will do their part to support the city of Flint.
