The Tesla Model S may benefit from a whopping $7,500 federal tax credit, but the 60 kWh model's $69,900 MSRP is still on the hefty side for most prospective buyers. However, the EV carmaker has significantly improved leasing only recently.
Thanks to an arrangement with the U.S. Bank, the Palo Alto-based manufacturer informs that a new lease package is now available for customers, one that will lower monthly lease payments by as much as 25 percent on an all-new Tesla Model S sedan.
Because the U.S. Bank has a "much lower cost of capital than us [Tesla]," the entry-level 60 kWh Model S is a considerable 16.6 percent less costly to lease - $777 per month for 3 years, with the condition you drive the thing less than 12,000 miles per year.
Of course, there's a $5,700 payment up front for all trim levels, translating to roughly 8 percent of a 60 kWh Model S' sicker price, 7 percent for the 85 kWh and 6 percent for the range-topping P85 variant. In addition to these, Elon Musk detailed another cool policy that'll help Tesla move more cars than before.
"Leasing now also comes with the Tesla happiness guarantee," said Musk. If it happens that a leasee gets bored of its Model S, the American electric vehicle automaker will let you return the car in the first three months, with the remaining lease obligation waived completely. The only catch is that you can't then immediately lease another Model S, and yes - you'll lose that $5,700 advance payment as well.
