The Tesla Model S is Canada's best-selling electric car in 2013. The US-built EV has a 43 percent market penetration in Canada this year, compared to 20 percent in 2012, IHS Automotive reports.
Tesla Motors surpassed Nissan Canada, who has a 35 percent EV market share this year with the Leaf model, down from 40 percent in 2012, and Mitsubishi, who dropped from 31 percent in 2012 to only 11 percent in 2013 with the i-MiEV

The remainder of the Canadian electric vehicle market is shared by Mercedes-Benz (Smart ForTwo EV - 8 percent), Ford (Focus Electric - 3 percent) and Toyota (RAV4 EV - 0.1 percent), according to Polk's New Vehicle Registration Data.

The Tesla Model S is priced from $77,800 CAD in Canada for the 60 kWh model, while the 85 kWh version can be had from $88,500 CAD. Customers from Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia benefit from tax incentives ranging from $5,000 CAD through $8,500 CAD.
