If you're one of the nearly 400,000 persons who gave Tesla a no-interest loan back in March 2016 by reserving a Model 3 for $1,000, one year later and with the prospect of another one to come, you're probably extremely anxious to pick up your car.
The very few lucky ones so far - 30 officially, a few more dozens unconfirmed ones since then - are all company employees or early investors, and this trend is going to continue for a while. However, the good news is that deliveries are at least starting to move East (Musk said a long time ago that they would start in California and go east from there), with some Gigafactory employees getting an early taste of what they've ordered.
The clip below shows a group of four (two men and two women, apparently) driving the new EV on a pretty deserted stretch of road running through the desert around Reno. Just to clarify, the car wasn't being delivered, it was just there so that people who had placed an order could drive it and confirm their interest is still intact.
One member of the happy bunch inside the Model 3 posted a video on Instagram, and even though the main display is unreadable, you can hear them talk about 85 mph (137 km/h), which - unless it was a closed road owner by Tesla - we're pretty sure is something the police would be interested in hearing about.
The Gigafactory has over 1,000 employees, so it's very likely that a large part of them was curious enough to pre-order this vehicle they build the batteries for. But given the scarcity of the Model 3 so far, we suspect only a lucky few will get it so early, which makes the enthusiasm of these four in the video even easier to explain.
Electrek says that Tesla employees from the other side of the country - midwest and east coast - have received late-September delivery date updates for their vehicles, meaning the company is on track with its scheduled plan.
