Tesla considers FSD V12.3.6 a mature build and is moving everyone, including the ones with older software limited to V11.4.9. The change comes with software update 2024.14.5, which rolls out to customers with 2024.14, 2024.3, and 2024.8 builds.
Tesla Full Self-Driving has made substantial progress in the first months of 2024, making Elon Musk confident that the software is ready for wider deployment to the Tesla fleet. As promised last year, Musk removed the beta label to mark that FSD is now fully developed software ready for production. However, Tesla cautiously added the "supervised" suffix to FSD's name to comply with regulators that closely monitor Tesla.

The transition from FSD Beta to FSD Supervised was quick, following Musk's indications that every new Tesla vehicle and those returning from service should be delivered with FSD V12 activated. Tesla also offered a one-month free FSD trial to everyone with a compatible car. When this happened, only the Model S, Model X, Model Y, and older Model 3 vehicles could run FSD software. However, Tesla also activated the self-driving software on the refreshed Model 3, leaving only the Cybertruck on the outside.

Musk's indications were difficult to put into practice, considering the many parallel software builds installed in Tesla EVs. New vehicles come with factory software, which cannot be updated immediately. Tesla also maintains different software branches, which are designed to keep various features separated.

For instance, Tesla used to have most of its owners on a "stable" software build, with 2024.8 being the latest. Somehow, less intuitively, 2024.3 was the "cutting-edge" build where the latest software features were tested. The lower number is chosen on purpose to prevent installing a cutting-edge build over a stable one, as Tesla software cannot be easily downgraded.

Owners have dreamed of a unified build for years, ending the split between the few privileged and the rest of the world. Many thought that with the launch of FSD V12.3 to more vehicles, it was time. However, not everyone could install Tesla's latest FSD iteration. Specifically, those on the "slower ring" with a 2024.8 build were stuck with the older V11.4.9 FSD build. Thankfully, Tesla acknowledged their grief and launched the 2024.14.5 update with FSD V12.3.6.

The 2024.14.5 update is part of the latest Tesla software branch and comes with the goodies of the Spring Release. It also installs over cutting-edge 2024.3, stable 2024.8, and newer 2024.14 builds. With the wider rollout of this update, FSD Beta V11.4.9 is finally phased out. The FSD Supervised V12.3.6 is installed on all customer vehicles except the Cybertruck. According to Musk, the electric pickup is not a priority, and it could take months before it can run FSD software.

Although there's only one build to rule them all for now, it's not guaranteed to stay like that. Tesla made similar moves in the past, only to launch other cutting-edge builds to test the latest features. Only Tesla and its technoking Elon Musk can tell if this time will be different.
