A few good years passed between the unveiling of the Cybertruck in concept form in late 2019 and the delivery kickoff in 2023. Still, Tesla has finally managed to bring its futuristic-looking workhorse to market.
The best news for fans of the electric pickup is that it has retained the overall shape of the study shown well over four years ago, as well as other features, making for an intriguing proposal in this class.
Ever since owners got their hands on the Tesla Cybertruck, the model has been subjected to all kinds of tests, prevailing and failing, depending on the challenge. But does it stack up against a Chevrolet Silverado in a tug-of-war? Spoiler alert: it didn't come out on top, that's for sure.
In a video uploaded on YouTube a few days ago, we can see the electric pickup engaging in this challenge against the GM-made machine, which features a turbodiesel under the hood. In theory, the Tesla should have dominated this game, especially since Musk's team showed it in a tug-of-war with a Ford F-150 while it was still in pre-production form.
Back then, it clearly won, but it appears that the test was rigged. Some of the viewers pointed out that the Blue Oval's vehicle seemed to have been a rear-wheel drive model, and this, combined with the fact that the bed was empty, might have tilted the balance in favor of the Cybertruck. As a result, the action wasn't fair, especially since the EV likely held the upper ground when it came to the weight, too.
So, how did it do against the oil-burning Silverado? Well, let's just say that the latter put it in its corner in the first attempt, and it did the same in the second one. The reason, apparently, is that one could not turn off the Cybertruck's traction control, so the safety gizmo aggressively cut the power. Pulling an ABS trick didn't help either, and the Tesla could only pull the Silverado while it was in park.
There might be a way to help the Tesla unleash its full power in a tug-of-war game against other rides: tricking its safety systems into thinking it is towing something. This suggestion came from a commenter who watched the video, and we hope the people behind this challenge or others see it and decide to act on it. Until then, it is clear that the Tesla Cybertruck isn't a tug-of-war champ, as much as some might want it to be.
But rather than babbling about it, we'd better let you watch the video, which is one mouse click away. So, did it surprise you that the EV couldn't beat the ICE-powered pickup in this game?
