Tata Preps Aria for Export

A possible expansion of Tata's Aria in foreign markets, hinted ever since the beginning of the year, is getting closer and closer to reality, two months after the SUV was introduced in India.

The model, the first Indian-built crossover, is planning to start exporting the model six months after its introduction, thus confirming the rumors of the beginning of the year which said the Aria would arrive in Europe (and possibly elsewhere) in 2011.

"Most of the products introduced in domestic markets are usually taken to overseas market after six months,” S G Saksena, Tata Utility Vehicles Product Group manager, was quoted as saying by Business Standard.

“There are host of other features before exporting which needs to be taken care of, which will take time... We do have plans to export it to European and SAARC countries after six months..."

According to unofficial information, the first market outside India to get the model will be the UK (both because of the right hand drive configuration of the car and because of the ties Tata Motors has with Jaguar Land Rover), followed soon by several other countries across Europe.

For the Indian market, the Aria comes equipped with a 2.2l Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) diesel engine, with an output rated at maximum 140 PS and 320 Nm of torque.

The equipment level of the SUV/crossover is above average, with the Aria presenting its customers with a 3D surround system, dimming roof lamps, in-dash GPS with infotainment system, multifunctional steering wheel, dual air-conditioning system with automatic climate control and cruise control.
