Tata Motors Fast Forwards European Launches

Tata Motors, the famous creator of the world's cheapest car, is looking into ways to bring more cars in Europe, with the very first models to make it to the Old Continent this year. According to a report by insideline.com, the Indian manufacturer is currently planning to debut a total of eight models in Europe and the United Kingdom seems to be a top priority when it comes to the European targets.

"We need to be selective, but seven or eight types of vehicle would be about right," Tata Motors' Ravi Kant was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

Tata Indica and Indigo will hit UK stores later this year, but the company is still looking for a distributor that could bring the cars closer to interested buyers. Nano Europe is due to reach the UK in 2011 while the Aria crossover showcased at Auto Expo 2010 is also on the table.

Still, Tata Motors would have to rework certain parts of the cars to comply with European regulations. However, the price will remain low, Kant emphasized. "We would be engineering cars that are not just for India. We want to put the philosophy of the Nano into effect," he said.

On the other hand, rumors are claiming that Nano will be more expensive in the United States, mostly because of the modifications that have to be made to comply with local legislation.

"For the United States we need a car which has a larger engine and we need additional crash-test modifications and we are in the process of doing it," Ratan Tata said last June.
