Tata Aria in Europe in 2011

Tata Motors plans to bring the Nano in Europe as soon as 2011 but it seems like the company's local expansion includes several other models, such as the Aria that will be on display at Geneva next week. Autocar.co.uk writes that the Aria will go on sale in the United Kingdom in spring 2011 and is likely to reach several other European markets in the months to follow.

Apparently, the car is already meeting European safety regulations but the tests are yet to be conducted. However, Tata Motors hopes to snatch at least a four-star EuroNCAP rating, as it equipped the car with 6 airbags and ESP, "offered by an Indian OEM for the first time", as the company said in a statement.

"A chassis frame, constructed with advanced hydro formed members, coupled with a stiffened body cage, dual zone collapsible steering and airbags make the Tata Aria one of the safest vehicles in an exigency. It meets EEC safety regulations, which includes full frontal crash, offset crash and the side pole tests," the statement also reads.

There is a single engine option available across the range, a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel unit that develops 140 horsepower. Still, the aforementioned sources suggests that a second unit could join the range as well specifically for the European market, with power output to go up to 170 hp. But such an upgrade would require several other modifications, including a new transmission, as it is believed that the current five-speed manual would not be able to handle the power.

autoevolution will be attending the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
