Taboo Yacht Will Break Ice for You, Carry Your Toys, Offer Ultimate Luxury
No one said a life of ultimate luxury has to be a boring or otherwise sedentary life. For the ever-active, adrenaline-junkie billionaire, Gill Schmid Design has the perfect luxury vessel: an explorer with the styling of a megayacht.

Taboo Yacht Will Break Ice for You, Carry Your Toys, Offer Ultimate Luxury

Unveiled in late 2017 and designed for a private client, the Taboo is a bold, beautiful and very functional yacht that will take its owner to the remotest regions, carry all his toys and keep him the lap of luxury at all times. Because no one said a life of adventure-seeking would have to come at the cost of luxury amenities, either.

The Taboo is a 90 meter (295 feet) explorer that will do anything from breaking ice to carrying all the toys the owner could ever want – or need – with him at sea, be they submersibles, watercraft, airplanes or even exotic cars. After all, what could be nicer than knowing you get to ride in your favorite supercars (yes, in plural) once you dock, and you don’t have to resort to rentals like common folk.

Gill Schmid Design imagines the Taboo as perfect for both polar and tropical destinations, thanks to its long range capabilities, volume and reliability. To further boost functionality, the design studio imagines an interior space that can be fully customized at the owner’s request and otherwise adaptable to a variety of situations.

“Taboo is designed for that special adventure and thrill seeking owner, who likes to explore the furthest corners of the globe with friends, family, and like-minded adrenaline junkies,”
Gill Schmid Design says in the official description of the project. “[It] is a high-volume purpose built expedition yacht for extreme polar and tropical adventures, with the performativity of a commercial vessel, whilst offering the highest levels of luxury in the most remote places on earth.”

An explorer worthy of the name offers plenty of storage space for all the equipment, and the Taboo is outstanding in this sense. It comes with a helipad and a retractable helicopter garage, and a garage on the bottom deck that can house a multitude of tenders of up to 14 meters (46 feet). There’s also room for a personal submarine and even for an amphibious car or an entire collection of exotics, the kind you drive on the road. Even a hot-air balloon can be stored on the Taboo, because Gill Schmid knows experienced adventurers like to have all their bases covered.

The Taboo might be an ice-breaker in the most technical sense, but it’s got the heart of a luxury megayacht. The exterior styling might not give that away, but it becomes clear once you step inside: it comes packed with luxury amenities like vast relaxation areas (cocktail lounge, beach club, dining areas), one-way glass that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior space, a fully-equipped gym and a resort-style spa.

Perhaps the most outstanding feature is the interior pool that is surrounded by one-way glass, for the perfect panoramic views. And, just in case the ocean is too cold to swim in, guests can literally swim with the fish in the several aquariums flanking the pool. A couple of jacuzzis are also thrown in, for good measure, while an aft summer house can serve as anything from a relaxation lounge to a casino.

“For the owner who entertains on a grand scale, Taboo has it all, with an unprecedented range of spaces that can transform within minutes from intimate private spaces, secluded from the outside word, to party spaces with vast indoor-outdoor facilities – absolute privacy when required, openness, adaptability and an unrivaled experience of the environment and ocean at all other times,” Gill Schmid says. “Breathtaking views and interactions with the environment are offered, but never at the cost of absolute privacy and seclusion when wanted.”

The Taboo would come with 12 guest staterooms and one owner’s suite on the private owner’s deck, complete with separate lounge, office space, the works. It would include accommodation for 26+ guests and 40 crew, the latter in 24 cabins.

Gill Schmid Design did not reveal specifics about the propulsion system on the Taboo, but they did say it would have an estimated range of about 7,000 nautical miles, with a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. Although developed for a private client, the design studio is open to discussions with other interested parties, in the hope of taking the Taboo off the page and into the realm of reality.
