Suzuki Jimny 40th Anniversary Website Launched

We already know that the Suzuki Jimny is turning 40 this year and now Suzuki’s UK division is launching a dedicated website to celebrate this.

The site follows the vehicle back to the original LJ10 model, which was released in 1970. Over the years, the Jimny’s sales have reached a total level of 2.48 million units across the 188 markets it is sold on.

When it was introduced, the Jimny was an affordable and lightweight but fully capable on and off road vehicle - as it remains today. It was powered back then by a 360cc two stroke engine and has evolved to meet the changing needs of customers while retaining its core values of lightness and fully fledged 4x4 capability,” stated the press release.

The current incarnation of the Jimny came to the market in 1998 and is powered by a 1.3 liter four-cylinder unit that delivers 85 hp and returns a combined cycle fuel consumption of 32.6 US mpg (39.2 UK mpg or 7.2 liters per 100 km) and emits 171 grams of CO2 per km.

It is a neat a practical SUV which has developed a loyal following of customers over the 40 years who are appreciative of its characterful appearance,” stated the press release.

In the UK, the Jimny starts at 10,995 pounds (the base model is the SZ3) and comes with metallic paint, fog lamps, roof rails and remote central locking.

Earlier this year, the Jimny was selected by the UK’s RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) to patrol its beaches in the North West; Devon, Poole, Bournemouth and North Cornwall. A fleet of 9 Jimny vehicles are used for beach patrol where the conditions require a lightweight vehicle.
