You can never be too careful with these things. A suspicious package was discovered on board a light train from the Luas Line in Dublin, Ireland, triggering a massive security alert.
In retrospect, the news is funny, because the “device” in question turned out to be a sex toy, wrapped in plastic so as to not be visible to onlookers. Someone traveling on the train probably forgot it there, though how exactly that would happen is uncertain. You don’t travel with your adult toys to just leave them behind, do you?
On a more serious note, the “device” was discovered by train workers doing maintenance work at around 3am, near Fassaugh Road, Independent.ie reports. They alerted the gardai, who descended on the scene to investigate.
Procedure mandates that a senior gardai must look into any security alert before calling in the EOD, aka the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit. The bomb squad, as the rest of the world calls it.
It’s a good thing procedure was followed, because the device wrapped in plastic, with “large amounts of ball bearings,” turned out to be an adult toy. The EOD was never called, after all, and the security alert was called off, the publication notes.
“It’s always better to be safe than sorry, and thankfully on this occasion it wasn’t a viable device,” a source close to the investigation reveals. “It had plastic casing and was wrapped in insulating tape. This, to say the least, is a new one to the gardai who were at the scene.”
No word on what happened to the toy, the publication adds. It was either discarded at the scene or handed over to the lost and found department, in case whoever left it behind remembers about it and comes looking. You never know.
