A week ago, Subaru teased us with the first image of this concept vehicle, a crossover that blends SUV practicality with a more fashionable form. The Japanese carmaker already sells a jacked-up version of the Impreza called the XV in some market, so this concept is could actually fit well in the product lineup.
The Subaru XV Concept was unveiled at the 2011 Auto Shanghai today and has stated that the car is designed around the key design concept word “Protren”, a mix of "Professional tool" and "Trendy design".
The XV Concept is by no means revolutionary (though it is bright green), but it brings a series of new elements like the restyled hexagonal grille, hawk-eye headlamps, a rear area also characterized by hexagonal shapes plus a roof that has been replaced by panoramic glass. Basically, it’s just like the current car, but better looking.
The aluminum alloy wheels are designed to combine a solid function and a stylish appearance, while at the same time exhibiting a fashionable look suited to urban driving, Subaru says. A contrasting color combination - silver spokes, black rims and clear blue center caps - is used intentionally to generate a unique new look.
The interior makes use of “silvery white leather" as the base material for the seats, which firmly envelopes passengers to provide a secure feeling. The use of sporty mesh in selected areas works to create a casual mood, and "yellowgreen" piping gives the interior a sporty touch. A large multifunction display sits in the center panel, catering to navigation, entertainment and driver assistance needs.
This is the first concept car in a long time we’ve brought to your attention that isn’t a hybrid, as the XV uses a more production-oriented 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Horizontally-Opposed DOHC engine which is linked to a Lineatronic CVT transmission.
