Subaru of America Names New COO

It has become quite popular to hold more than one executive position at the same time nowadays and more and more automakers seem to decide upon this measure probably to better cope with the financial downturn.

Thus Subaru of America has decided to promote Thomas J. Doll to the position of chief operating officer (COO) thanks to his achievements as executive vice president and CFO in the past 15 years. Although Doll, age 53, was promoted and will assume other responsibilities, he will not quit his role as executive vice president and CFO.

"The U.S. is Subaru's largest market world-wide and the position of chief operating officer is vital as we seek to continually improve the operations and processes of our U.S. business. Tom understands SOA and its operations very well and I look forward to his contribution as he brings his experience to this new position," Tomohiko Ikeda, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Subaru of America said.

Doll came at Subaru of America in 1982, holding the position of manager of treasury operations between 1985-1988. In 1988, he was promoted to director of treasury operations and then to director of accounting one year later. In 1991, he was appointed vice president of business and strategic planning and then, CFO, responsible for business and strategic planning, budgeting, controller functions, accounting and financial reporting.

However, Doll was not the only executive that received a promotion. Tim Colbeck, age 45, was  promoted from vice president, sales to senior vice president, sales and also assumes responsibility for vehicle logistical planning.

As we said earlier, it has become quite fashionable to occupy more than one executive position at the same time. However, we can not possibly imagine that this is really a "privilege" knowing how badly automakers have been hit by the economic crisis.
