Overgeneralizing and stereotypes do more harm than good, that much is widely agreed upon. But perhaps this instance is one rare pass we all get to laugh at women drivers and their apparent inability to keep vehicles on the road.
A new video is going viral on reddit after re-emerging on social media. It’s titled “Undecided driver,” which would hint that the female driver – yes, it was a woman at the wheel of this white sedan – couldn’t make up her mind on whether she wanted to continue moving on the highway or park it right there.
The reality was different, though. As it turns out, this was a crash that occurred on September 15, 2019, on a highway in Hangzhou City, East China. The driver was trying to merge toward the exit when she hit the median barrier and the car, instead of crumpling like it should have, went up against a pole, with the nose pointing at the sky. And stayed there.
The second video at the bottom of the page shows two apparently young women standing by the wreck, clearly shocked at what just happened. The report notes that the driver was injured, though it is believed her injuries were minor. It also highlights perhaps the most hilarious part about this strange crash: she told authorities that “a mistake led to the accident.”
Commenters believe that this mistake could have been her misjudging whether she could make the exit, given that there was another vehicle in the next lane. This made her change her mind at the last minute and decide to avoid a possible collision with that vehicle by driving straight into the barrier.
Or we could assume that women’s non-existent parking skills that have made the punchline of many viral moments kick in at the worst time. But what spectacular results they have!
