Panda Rollerblader on Ohio’s Interstate 670 Is Us in 2020: Vulnerable and Stupid

Surveillance cameras were facing the wrong way when Hood Panda rollerbladed on the highway, ODOT says 1 photo

Without exaggeration, 2020 has been the most terrible, annoying, difficult, and stupid year in recent history. No wonder then that it has turned many of us into very vulnerable and stupid human beings, doing stuff worthy of this description.
None other better fits this bill than the dude in the video below. Call him Hood Panda or call him the naked rollerblader who took to Ohio’s Interstate 670 to show off his skills – and assets – in heavy traffic. The Ohio Department of Transportation would rather you called him a very reckless pedestrian whose stunt should not be replicated.

This video is viral, having started making the rounds simultaneously on social media and reddit the other day. It was shot in Columbus, Ohio, on a stretch of the I-670, nearing exit Neil Avenue. The dude is completely naked, wearing only panda headgear and what looks like a golf club (but is actually a selfie stick, because he’s filming himself).

This is the stupidest, most 2020 thing you’re likely to see all day: the man is rollerblading in heavy traffic at what looks like considerable speed. The ODOT has thoughts on that.

“Pedestrians are not permitted on interstate highways. There are signs posted at all the entrance ramps. This is a safety issue,” spokesman Matt Bruning tells 614Now. Bruning adds that security cameras must have been pointing in the wrong direction when this went down, because the rollerblader is nowhere to be found on recorded footage. ODOT has no idea who he is.

Word online has it that the mystery Panda rollerblader ousted himself on social media and is even raising funds to cover the legal expenses he’s bound to incur. He goes by Matt Lyon a.k.a. Hood Panda and, in a lengthier video he posted to Instagram, he’s shown arriving on that stretch of the highway while pulled by a vehicle. Which explains his impressive speed.

It goes without saying that no one should do stuff like this, no matter their skillset or experience. But there is a tiny part in all of us that could maybe identify with the rollerblader Panda in this very crazy year that has truly brought the crazy out: the vulnerable and incredibly stupid part. And painfully exposed.
