Because Mercedes now offers a veritable crossover in the front-wheel drive platformed GLA-Class, the larger GLK-Class is now free to become a fuller, more practical vehicle.
Mercedes engineers are currently working on the next-generation GLK, built on the same architecture as the next-gen C-Class, the W205. Even though the sheetmetal isn't shared, the styling is clearly similar, and there is more than a passing similarity inside.

The GLK will have the same sort of tablet-like infotainment system on top of the dash. The only major difference between this interior spied on the SUV prototype and the one C-Class is that the clock is gone.

Even though the GLK doesn't have the chunky buttons of a Range Rover that you can press with gloves, we're confident customers will appreciate this elegant design.

When it's ready for production, the new GLK will face off against a facelifted BMW X3. Audi won't have a new Q3 or Q5 any time soon, but Lexus is working on the new NX crossover SUV to slot under the RX.

The 2015 Mercedes GLK will also be manufactured in the US, due to high demand in North America. We expect the public unveiling to take place in mid-to-late 2014, either at the 2014 Paris Motor Show or the 2014 LA Auto Show.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
