Tobias Moers Pretty Much Confirms 485-500 hp C 63 AMG W205

The AMG version of the upcoming C-Class W205 has long been rumored to offer a close to 500 hp rating from its newly-developed four-liter V8, but a few days ago it was almost confirmed.

We realize it sounds highly ambiguous but it is actually a direct quote from Tobias Moers, who is the new man in charge of Mercedes-AMG's destiny in the upcoming years.

Speaking with the Aussies from Motoring, Moers said: “I think it’s [power increases] getting slower. In the future, maybe you add sometimes some electrical forces to that, electrical power units to [supplement performance], but I think a C-Class [at] 485-500 horsepower [360-372kW] is, in my personal view is, it’s OK.”

As you know by now, the next C 63 AMG will switch from the epic M156 normally-aspirated V8 to the M177 twin-turbocharged V8.

Based on bonding two M133 four-cylinder from the 45 AMG models together, the new V8 is set to feature an atypical exhaust and turbocharger arrangement, in the style of the BMW S63 and the Audi 4.0 TFSI engines – with the turbochargers situated in between the two cylinder banks.
