The Audi TT mid-life facelift isn't the most important thing in the world. But the carmaker is still trying to make sure everything works with a bit of Nurburgring testing.
The little 2+2 made in Hungary is one of the most successful sports cars regarding sales. This generation is by far the sharpest and least girly, but a 2019 facelift will make things more interesting.

The camouflage tells us that the facelift will be concentrated around the front and rear bumpers of the car. This particular Nordschleife attendee seems to have the S-Line body kit as well, borrowing styling cues from the A7 Sportback.

Minor headlight changes are supposed to mirror the R8 flagship... the one reports say will be discontinued. No, these aren't the headlights they will use.

The TT is probably going to be the last of the original MQB-based compacts to get a facelift. As such, it will probably benefit from new engine technology which will also go into the Golf 8 or Octavia 4.

The entry-level 1.8-liter TFSI will almost certainly be swapped for the 2.0-liter unit. This will increase the output from 179 to 190 or even 200 HP while also slightly lowering fuel consumption. The old dry-clutch "DSG" gearbox that came with the 1.8T should also be removed.

Diesel engines make less sense than ever in a car like this. The TT currently boasts the 2.0 TDI of the Golf GTD, complete with 184 HP output. This could either be left as-is, be replaced with the new 190 PH unit or even a hybridized 1.5 TSI Evo which the Volkswagen Group is developing.

The Audi TT has always been the sensible sports car that came with a frugal diesel engine. It's part of the car's character, so we don't see Audi dropping it entirely.

Inside, we might see some funky color options being borrowed from the Q2. A refreshed Virtual Cockpit system might also be on the agenda.
