This is the second generation GLK, emerging for testing using a full production car body. Classed a compact crossover and offering one of the most high-volume packages in segment, the GLK will go up against the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
With the arrival of the GLA, this new model is free to become a more practical car with a larger boot and more interior space.
The GLK will be powered by a choice of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines, which will drive either the rear or all four wheels. Potentially, European models could see the introduction of brand new units, like the rumored 2-liter turbo petrol with 250 hp for the GLK 300 or the twin-turbo 3-liter going into the GLK 400. Diesel will continue to play a crucial role, though we still don't know what sort of role diesel will play in the US.
Still no word on an AMG model, though Mercedes' new-found interest in hybrid systems could work with the GLK in this respect.
