The fifth and most likely final Mercedes-Benz model to be built on the MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform will be the Shooting Brake version of the CLA, set to arrive sometime next year, with the 2014 Paris Motor Show having the best odds to host its premiere.
The coupe-like shape of the CLA, very similar in profile with the CLS bigger brother, should mean that the station wagon/Shooting Brake version can only come as a blessing for all those who were unhappy with the rear head room in the current model, as the roofline will sit just a tiny bit higher in order to not screw up the exterior proportions.

A larger trunk plus the addition of a rear hatch will improve the adaptability of the car to an almost crossover level, while the 4Matic all-wheel drive versions will probably steal some sales from the GLA compact crossover/SUV.

Design-wise, it isn't difficult to picture how the CLA Shooting Brake will look, especially when looking at its CLS big-brother, but we've also included an artist's rendering above. A Mercedes-Benz executive told Car and Driver that the model will not be sold in the United States, as that market has clearly replaced all wagons, be them sporty, sexy or utilitarian, with SUVs in the last few decades.
