They say good things come in small packages, but we can add the fact that they’ll also be quite expensive, considering their modest size. Take the new Smart models for example, which just got priced for the UK market. The cheapest one starts at over £11,000.
The two fresh models, fortwo and forfour will be available starting early next year and coming with more style, improved agility, comfort and efficiency. And they’re also more packed with technology, each coming with £300 of extras as standard over the outgoing generation, including direct steer electric power steering, auto stop/start system and LED daytime running lights.

Planning to drive alone or taking only one passenger most of the time? Then the smart fortwo is what will suit you best. It comes with a choice of two engines - a 71 hp or 91 hp turbo unit - matched to a new five-speed manual gearbox or an optional six-speed dual clutch automatic one.

The 71 hp three-cylinder 1-liter gasoline engine averages 68.9 mpg UK, 93 g/km of CO2 and can reach a top speed of 94 mph. On the other hand, the 90 hp turbocharger unit does 67.3 mpg UK, emits 97 g/km and reaches 96 mph.

Pricing starts at £11,125 for the five-speed manual 71 hp (extra £995 for the automatic version) or £11,720 for the 90 hp version with the standard gearbox.

If you’re not the lone wolf and care about your friends/family, the forfour adds two more doors, that open at an 85-degree angle, and twice the seats which can also be folded flat. This way, you can carry items up to 2.2 meters in length and 0.95 meters high.

The engines remain the same, with the 71 hp unit averaging 67.3 mpgUK and 97 g/km CO2 in this case. The 90 hp version will be available later next year and there is no consumption data available at the moment.

Equipment levels

We talked about engines and body shapes, now let’s see what’s on the list to make them wanted. Well, there will be three grades - passion, prime and proxy - each coming with its own amenities and enough amenities even from standard.

The passion version features 15-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, smart audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and two color interiors, namely orange with black or black and white.

Step up one grade and the prime model gets you different styled rims, panoramic glass sunroof with sun protection, black leather upholstery, heated seats, lane-keep assist and additional dashboard instrument pods.

Finally, the proxy model comes with 16-inch alloy rims, panoramic glass roof, blue and white interior with Artico and cloth upholstery, sports leather multifunction steering wheel, a 10 mm lower suspension and chrome exhaust tip.

Optional packs are available and there’s also the edition #1 version starting at £13,225 which features unique exterior features and special badging.
