At a ceremony in London today, the diminutive smart fortwo cdi has been awarded the “Overall Best MPG” winner of the ALD Automotive Shell FuelSave MPG Marathon 2011. The car did an amazing 99.24 miles per gallon (2.8-liter per 100 kilometers), which is the most frugal result ever-recorded in the 11-year history of the competition.
The result came as a result of eco driving champion Mick Linford and co-driver Ella Flynn carefully driving the smart through over 370.9 miles of tough roads around Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset over a two day period.

“I was determined to break the magical 100mpg mark this year, but the weather and one particularly hilly section was against us.  To get so close is a double-edged sword - but I’m delighted that the smart delivered these incredible results despite the challenges!” says Mick.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
