Small Growth for Chrysler in August

The difficult task of comparing the sales figures for August 2010 with the ones for last year's same month (the Cash for Clunkers month) continues in the US with Chrysler, which have released its sales figures for the month of August.

According to the report, the American carmaker registered a mild 7 percent increase compared to last year, when it was still battling the effects of its bankruptcy. Chrysler sold 99,611 vehicles, posting at the same time the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases and becoming at the same time the only carmaker originating from the US with a year-over-year sales increase in August.

"Chrysler Group is proud that we have beaten or matched the average industry sales increase for the fifth consecutive month this year and for the calendar year to date,"
said Fred Diaz, lead executive for US Sales.

"This is proof positive that we are accomplishing our goals - steady, sustainable growth. We will continue to build on this momentum as we begin production on a stream of new product through the end of this year."

Each of the manufacturer's brands contributed to the growth. The Jeep Brand posted a 17 percent increase, selling 25,706 units. Ram Truck, the newest addition to the portfolio grew 5 percent to 20,604 units, while Dodge posted an increase of 8 percent to 35,364 units.

For next month, the carmaker plans to keep sending over good news, especially in light of the soon to be launched models: the new Wrangler and the new 2011 Dodge Durango. In all, Chrysler will send our way 16 all new or significantly refreshed vehicles this year, in an attempt to refresh about 75 percent of its entire lineup.
