Ford Pushes Forward in China

We are quite accustomed by now to having global carmakers, especially German and American ones, releasing impressive sales figures for their operations in China. They have been doing so for more than a year now and, apparently, things aren't about to change anytime soon.

Ford posted today its numbers for the region, numbers which are, as usual, full of promise. The carmaker sold 44,047 units in August through its joint ventures in China, Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA) and Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), or, if you like, 24 percent more than the same month of 2009. Since the beginning of the year, the carmaker has sold a total of 368,103 units, an increase of 42 percent over the same period in 2009.

Taken separately, Changan Ford Mazda (a joint venture which will split in two, if we are to trust the latest reports) sold 251,046 units since the year began, or 33 percent over the same period last year. The company's best selling model is the Ford Focus.

The Jiangling Motors Corporation business sold 117,057 units from January to August, a bit short of doubling the sales (an increase of 89 percent). The best selling model coming from this joint venture was the Ford Transit.

"We are encouraged by the strong sales performance of both our passenger and commercial vehicles in this fast-growing market,”
said Robert Graziano, Ford Motor China CEO.

“As we continue to implement our plan to make quality, fuel-efficient with smart technology that represent great value to consumers in China, we hope to accelerate this growth momentum with new investments that expand our product portfolio and distribution channels."
