Skoda has revealed its latest concept study, the VisionS, which is the brand’s first-ever plug-in hybrid SUV model.
The new SUV promises an evolution of the Skoda design language with the bonus of a spacious interior and an efficient powertrain. We can anticipate seeing a production version of it once the seven-seat SUV gets to business on the production line.
The Vision S is the first Skoda vehicle to feature six seats across three rows, and it has a wheelbase measuring 2.79 meters (109.9 in) and a total length of 4.70 meters (185 in). Its width is of 1.91 meters (75.2 in), while its height measures 1.68 meters (66.1 in).
The highlight of the new concept study from Skoda is the drivetrain. It delivers up to 225 HP and provides an acceleration time of 7.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph). The rated top speed is of almost 200 km/h (124 mph), more than enough for a car in this category.
Meanwhile, the estimated fuel economy is of 1.9 liters of gasoline for 100 kilometers (123.8 mpg). Thanks to its drivetrain, the plug-in hybrid SUV from Skoda can drive up to 50 kilometers (31 miles) on electric power alone, and boasts a total range of over 1,000 kilometers (621 miles).
The vehicle’s drivetrain is composed of a 1.4-liter TSI engine that delivers 156 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. It is assisted by an e-motor integrated into the six-speed DSG gearbox, and that motor provides 40 kW of continuous power and a peak torque of 220 Nm (162.2 lb-ft). Together, the two engines provide a theoretical maximum of 470 Nm (346.7 lb-ft), but engine power values never add up completely in real life.
Skoda’s first ever plug-in hybrid features a second electric motor, which drives the rear axle, and delivers up to 85 kW and 270 Nm (199.1 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to this unit, the SUV has an on-road all-wheel-drive system without any mechanical coupling between the axles.
Along with the new plug-in hybrid concept study, Skoda will showcase the Octavia RS 4x4 range, the Octavia G-Tec (natural gas), and the Skoda Fabia Combi ScoutLine. The latter will be featured alongside the Skoda Rapid Spaceback ScoutLine.
