Skoda canceled the second generation of the Roomster although the car was already developed and had reached a final prototype stage.
Even if the car didn’t reach production, this doesn’t mean prototypes weren’t built. Some of them even got the full treatment that would make them ready to be photographed for a catalogue, as it should have been. Luckily for us, a man named Lukáš Mareš managed to snap a few shots of the readied Skoda Roomster prototype.

Even if the car is, essentially, a re-bodied Volkswagen Caddy, the could-have-been Skoda Roomster Mk2 looks pretty good for a utilitarian MPV. Naturally, the Caddy’s form is easily spotted and one can surely link the two models even without seeing them next to each other.

According to Autoforum.cz, Skoda even made over 100 production-spec Roomster Mk2 cars that were meant for the indigenous Czech market. However, at the end of November, the Volkswagen Group decided to cut costs and restrict spending, so these cars might not make it to their potential customers, since they will not be sold on traditional channels. Ultimately, they might be sold at wholesale auctions to free space and dampen the company’s expenses.

Instead of making the second-generation Roomster a reality, the guys at Skoda want to focus on SUVs and crossovers. Some industry voices claim the company plans to create an emotional connection with its customers, which would prove difficult when selling MPVs. The Mk2 Skoda Roomster was supposed to be built in Poland, along with its Volkswagen sibling, the Caddy.

Skoda’s SUV offensive plans to ditch the Yeti once the current model reaches the end of its life. Instead of the Yeti, the Czech company is thinking of two more imposing vehicles. The first one will arrive in 2016, while the other SUV planned by Skoda will be a larger, seven-seat vehicle that might come to market in 2017.
