While people in Europe are doing horrible things to their cars, Czech automaker, Skoda, is celebrating five years of successful activity in China, along with group partner, Volkswagen. The Chinese market, the largest single market they have, is a very important one for Skoda because one in four of their cars is sold there.
With the start of Chinese production of the Octavia, back in 2007, Skoda, with the aid of Shanghai VW (SVW), slowly rose from 27,000 cars sold in the first year, to as many as 220,000 in 2011. Now, they are about 10,000 short of the 750,000 mark.
This years sales are also going well, with over 100,600 cars already delivered (as of May), marking an 8% increase over last year. Furthermore, with the introduction of the Rapid and the (larger) Yeti, the appeal of their range will be even greater for the Chinese buyer.

The year 2013 is an inportant one for Skoda, as they will be launching the two aforementioned models, as well as setting their expansionary plans into motion, beginning the increase of the number of dealers from the current 400 to 600, as they plan to raise their global sales to 1.8-million units by the year 2018.
